Club Rules

 

  1. FOUR GUN HANDLING SAFETY RULES:
    1. Treat all firearms as though they are always loaded.
    2. Never allow the muzzle to cover anything you aren’t willing to destroy, even for a brief instant.
    3. Always be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
    4. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
  2. UNSAFE GUN HANDLING is defined as any manipulation of a firearm that places any person or property at risk of injury or death.  This includes but is not limited to:
    1. Pointing guns (loaded or unloaded) at or towards any person por property not intended to absorb bullets.
    2. Handling guns while anyone is downrange or forward of the firing line.
    3. Placing a finger inside the trigger guard unless pointing the gun at a target in preparation for shooting.
  3. RANGE RULES:
    1. No shooting on Sundays prior to 12 noon.
    2. Do not shoot at barricades, buildings, benches, or at target backing board supports.
    3. Do not shoot at class containers, nor shoot at aerial targets with solid projectiles.
    4. Do not pattern shotguns on pistol or rifle ranges.  There are facilities available specifically for patterning shotguns.
    5. Remove all brass or shell casings.
    6. Remove all misfires and faulty ammo.
    7. Remove all targets, empty ammo boxes, trash, etc.
    8. No hunting on NWSA property.
    9. Red “Bravo” flag must be raised prior to using any of the ranges and lowered by the last shooter leaving the range.
    10. Fire weapons only at targets that are protected by earthen embankment backstops, exceptions only for shotguns firing shot shells and archery.  Make sure bullets won’t be fired over backstops or impact into ground short of backstop.
    11. Use of alcohol and drugs is prohibited on all ranges.
    12. Trap Range & Rifle Range cannot be used simultaneously.  When one is in use, the other is closed.

** Use of radio for range coordination during sanctioned, organized Trap Shoots is authorized.**

    1. No shooting on the Rifle Range on the Sunday following the Monthly Meeting (2nd Wednesday of the Month).  This Sunday is set aside for the “Meat Shoot” and usually some prearranged social function at the clubhouse.  During this time, the rifle range is CLOSED.
    2. Use of NWSA Ranges is at your own risk.
    3. Only club furnished backboard supports and paper, cardboard or plastic targets may be used unless it is an NWSA sponsored organized shooting event.
    4. Violation of any of the above rules will be reported to the Board of Trustees for consideration of possible membership loss.
  1. GUESTS
    1. Guests may be brought onto club property to use the facilities.
    2. The guest’s sponsor is responsible for the actions of their guest. 
    3. The guest’s sponsor must ensure that all safety and range rules are followed.
    4. The sponsor must remain with the guest for the duration of the guest’s visit.
  2. ENFORCEMENT OF RULES
    1. Every member is responsible for enforcement of the rules of the club.
    2. If someone is observed violating NWSA rules, you are required to take appropriate action. 
    3. At a minimum, get their vehicle license number, and if possible, their name and the name of their sponsor.

 

All members of NWSA have signed that they will abide and enforce these rules.
